Time to Treatment for Total Hip Replacement

Why is this important?

Physical therapy services in the home are critically important to individuals recovering from total hip replacement surgery.  In fact, the patient can experience serious problems unless therapy begins within one day after he or she is discharged from the hospital.

Last year, WellSpan’s VNA Home Health provided physical therapy to 98 patients following hip replacement surgery.  The following shows the percentage of these patients who began therapy within one day of having surgery.

What we are doing to improve our performance.

The caregivers of WellSpan’s VNA Home Health work very hard to conduct the patient’s first therapy visit as quickly as possible – especially for patients who have had total hip replacement surgery.  To accomplish this goal, the clinical management team uses a log to monitor and manage therapy times.
