CABG Mortality Rate

Why is this important?

This is an operation for patients with coronary heart disease.  CABG surgery diverts blood flow away from the narrowing or blockage in coronary arteries with another piece of blood vessel.  A CABG also can reduce and relieve pain in patients who have angina and are taking medication that does not work.  This surgery can improve the health of patients with severe narrowing of the left main coronary artery or the three major coronary arteries, thus restoring the blood supply to the heart muscle.

How WellSpan Compares

The following graph shows the percent of patients undergoing CABG who die, including both 1) all deaths occurring during the hospitalization in which the CABG was performed, and 2) those deaths occurring after discharge from the hospital, but within 30 days of the procedure.

Unit of Measurement: Percentage

A lower score is better than a higher score.

What we are doing to improve our performance.

All mortalities are reviewed in depth by surgeons for any improvement in care delivery processes.
