Patient Safety

What Is Patient Safety?  WellSpan Health urges each patient and family member to become actively involved when they are hospitalized or visit a WellSpan facility. WellSpan Health has a variety of systems to provide a safer environment for patients.

These systems prevent patients from falling while in a WellSpan facility, provide better processes to prevent medication and other clinical errors and enhance reporting systems to identify potential problems before they cause harm. They also provide an improved way for patients to take a more active role in their care.

WellSpan has a commitment to discussing with patients and their family unexpected results, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines to ensure consistently high quality care, regular assessment of staff’s abilities to perform their roles and continuing education for all staff members. On admission, patients receive a safety brochure which outlines the role of the patient, the role of the family and contact information if there are safety questions at WellSpan.

How do we compare?  The following information is reviewed on a regular basis by WellSpan Patient Safety Committees and actions are developed for improvement.

Central Line Catheter-associated Blood Stream Infections for ICU Patients
Medication Errors Causing Harm
Total Patient Falls
Urinary Catheter-associated UTI for ICU Patients
